Procedure for Buyers
1. Make sure you have a safe, adequate sized, well ventilated transport container to transport your birds home in. Donations of cardboard boxes to club are most appreciated, as we can then sell to people who have forgotten to bring a carry box.
2. Go to the sales desk in the large shed to the left of the pavilion and register your name and address.
3. The admin person on the sales desk will allocate you a number (for bidding).
4. Place your bidding number in a visible position (chest/shoulder), to avoid confusion.
5. Be the successful bidder on your selected birds!!
6. Go to the sales desk and pay for your birds, cash preferred, sorry no eftpos available.
7. Get a release receipt which will have the cage numbers on it (of the birds you have bought).
8. Find a steward with a red cap. They will check that you have a blue receipt stamped "paid". The steward will cut the cable ties to enable you to get your birds.
9. Only the stewards are allowed to cut the cable ties.
10. Buyers must not take their birds without a steward first checking the receipt. This saves any confusion and ensures you get the birds you bought.
11. Please be aware of laws in regard to carrying and transporting birds. These laws are listed on the Department of Environment and Primary Industries web site.

Procedure for Sellers
1. Go to the sales desk and collect a "Sellers sheet".
2. Write your name and address and details of the birds you are selling on the sheet.
3. Find a steward with a red cap, who will direct you to the appropriate pens to put your birds in.
4. The steward will then cable tie the pen shut and write your seller number (found on the top right corner of your sellers sheet) on all of your pens.
5. Write the pen number (black numbers on the pens) beside the described bird on your sellers sheet.
6. After penning your birds, take the vendors sheet back to the sales desk.
7. IMPORTANT - if you would like to put a reserve price on your birds, this must be listed on the vendors sheet AND clearly written on the pen.
8. It is always wise to prepare a small "sign" for the front of your birds pens advising potential purchasers of the breed, sex, and age of birds. Don't assume the public will know what your birds are (sex or breed).
9. If selling trios of birds (one male, two females), be aware that many buyers may not be able to keep a rooster in a metropolitan area. Selling trios may restrict your potential market.
10. Know your market. Many people who attend the Maffra auctions are wanting a) backyard layers, b) attractive birds, or perhaps c) pets for their children, or often all three.
11. After your birds have been auctioned, return to the administration desk to collect your proceeds (minus commission).

The club has strict rules for entering fertile eggs in auctions which will be enforced.
Eggs must have paperwork placed in the same pen as the eggs which lists -
1. Vendors name.
2. Vendors contact phone number.
3. Breed name.
3. Each egg should also have the "date laid" written on it.
These new rules are to protect buy
The club does not allow eggs to be sold in auctions for the purpose of eating (food).
